With a mere 0.022 °C behind 2016 temperatures, 2020 has been the 2nd hottest year according to Berkeley Earth.
The full report has been posted on the Berkeley Earth website today. Especially temperatures in the Arctic have been extraordinarily hot – which has also led to the Northeast Passage having been passable for a record 112 days. As the the October 2020 Temperature Update shows, prior to 1990 most years the Northeast Passage was not passible for even a single day of the year!
