Ice-free as early as 2030

In her article “Hot Times in the Arctic“, Cecilia Bitz, a professor of atmospheric sciences at the University of Washington, writes:

On our current greenhouse emissions trajectories, the Arctic Ocean is expected to be ice-free in late summer by about midcentury or possibly as early as 2030

That sounds truly scary and beyond imagination in terms of the impact that will have on the ecosystem and the fauna up there.
